美国亚利桑那州矿业小镇繁荣镇，一辆运送化学原料的卡车发生事故，将有毒废料倾倒进当地河流。镇上养蛛人的上千蜘蛛被污染，变得体积庞大，成批进入废弃的矿井栖息繁殖。小镇警长珊姆•帕克（卡瑞•伍尔KariWührer饰）的儿子迈克（史考特•泰拉ScottTerra饰）发现了巨大的蜘蛛腿，怀疑养蛛人遇害，但母亲珊姆却不听儿子解释。镇上矿主的儿子克里斯•麦克康莫克（大卫•阿奎特DavidArquette饰）在镇议会上归来，反对镇长出售矿井的建议。克里斯对珊姆余情未了，却没勇气向佳人表明心迹。迈克将巨型蛛腿展示给克里斯看，后者依然将信将疑。与此同时，矿井里的巨大蜘蛛开始攻击镇上动物，然后是人类。通讯系统也被“八脚怪”破坏，全镇人的生命危在旦夕…ccc

清早，古镇酒楼里金如意喊伙计们起床开张，却发现厨子铁牛留下一封辞职信之后不见了踪影，跟着一起消失的还有店里的银子。视财如命的金如意被气晕在地。一个壮士要承包酒店宴请朋友，提出让酒楼准备八个菜试吃，经过众人的不懈努力和创新，“橘子全席”被摆上桌，贵客张大牛尝了一口便晕倒在地。酒店的人误以为张大牛食物中毒，惊慌失措。雪青青对张大牛的身份产生怀疑，几经周旋这才弄清楚张大牛的身份：原来此人正是江湖上极负恶名的“独孤贼”。可张大牛没有高强的武艺也没有歹毒的心肠，他到处放出谣言，虚构出一个恶贯满盈的身份，目的只为混吃混喝，并未真正伤害过谁。雪青青让张大牛按手印留下证据，如若说半句假话，就把此份记录上报官府。在品尝过张大牛的厨艺后，金如意希望他能留下做厨子。张大牛起初并不情愿，可碍于自己有把柄在雪青青手上最终还是同意留下。金如意和众人一起准备开店，迎接古镇酒楼的全新生活......
